Balance

Its been a few months since I last posted on here, but I am excited to get back into the action! Back in December I got a new job with more responsibilities, so the creative endeavors got slowed down a bit. Since then, I have been trying to find the balance between that and what I am building here with Spaced Out Design. I have been steadily working on a new figure and a few other miscellaneous projects that will be popping up over the next few weeks.

I am truly excited about sharing this next figure however. His first sketches and outline began quite a few years ago when I started really getting into toys and thinking it could be something I could supplement my life with. Since then, I have been adding and improving on his overall design in between other projects like Geodraxus and Quarzenic.

Acris holds a very special place in my overall vision. He was the first critical design I wanted to pursue and hope to perfect. He still is going through changes as I speak but I know he will land in a good place in the end.( Hopefully!)

Anyway, I figured I would throw up some pictures of both of my worlds, work and toys! I now have a powerful laser cutting machine at my disposal and 3D modelling software, so I have been busy noodling around there as well. Here are some patterns I drew and cut out of Acris, along with some early study sculpts and some shop casts!

Into the Black

I am cooking along and finished all the casting, tooling, and clean-up work for this latest launch. I wanted to do a few customs to display a different aspect of the Prismirians. Typically, they are a beautiful, sleek, and shiny group of people who are very elegant, yet powerful. There is a crew however, that has a bit more roughness to them. We will meet them in the coming weeks!

Ill be finishing up painting this week and will be printing packaging and finish with photography. I want this launch to be the best it can be, so thanks for bearing with me! Just a quick update, now back to painting.

Mechanical Master

More stuff will be surfacing soon on Geo, but I wanted to share a few shop photos to show some of the processes that actually go into making a figure. When I cobbled my first Geodraxus together, I was so unbelievably happy that I had made a figure from top to bottom. I still remember the phone conversations with Matt and Jesse, I was practically in tears! This had become a moment I would not forget. I had been working on him non stop for months and really wanted something to bring to NYCC that year (2013). I did what I could to make him presentable, but I knew he needed a lot of work to get him where I wanted him to be. Flash forward to now.

Ron has taken Geodraxus from his past state, to a more mechanically sound one. I wanted a figure that could do more than the previous version, and Ron has been helping me do just that. We have been going back and forth on getting things "on point" and talking about the future of this figure. Its really awesome to watch him work out in the shop! The pictures display Ron getting parts all lined up and mechanically fit. He has a very accurate way of getting those "sweet spots". I couldn't have made it here without the help of my friends Ron and Matt. You guys are the best!

Most will notice a good deal of changes to Geodraxus. Elements of the sculpt have been pushed and pulled, and new line work and design changes have been implemented. This time, he will be debuting with a darker foe.

I really can't wait to get the molding done and hold a new version of an old friend !

Winter

We have been getting bombarded with the white stuff the past couple of days and it is safe to say winter is  here. Its amazing how fast the seasons change sometimes.

I was hoping to do a proper launch of Geodraxus before this year ends. Unfortunately, time did not see it that way. The last thing I wanted to do was rush the project, so I am taking a step back for the holidays.

I also have some other projects in the works for 2014 that I am excited about. Some solo stuff and some collaborations with friends is on tap!

I will be working on this release through the holidays and will post some WIP photos as I am chuggin' along. Check back for some new stuff soon!

Shipped!

Everything from the store debut has been shipped out as of Monday afternoon! I am super stoked to have had you guys apart of this latest assortment. Its been super fun making these guys! I hope that everyone likes the stuff they got.

For those of you that picked up a Saplorite, be on the lookout for some oddballs! Some of these guys glow in the dark and some of them change in different lighting! It will be fun to see which ones you scored.

Be sure to hop over to the forums and post some pics of you hauls! I want to see who ended up with some of those Saplorites. I am already rolling into the next thing "toy" wise. After a small decompression I am returning to one of my favorite parts of toy making, sculpting!

Back in Action!

Whew! It is hard to believe its been practically a month since NYCC. I am still trying to straighten myself after that crazy show! I had the privilege to meet many incredible artists from all over the world there. It was awesome making new friends and breaking bread with these people! Thanks again To Matt And Jesse for all of their input for this convention, you guys are the best!

Finally back from NYCC and other out-of-state travels. Its good to be home and back in the studio working on stuff. I have a few projects in the works (glyos related ) that Id like to share with everyone. Also, I am going to be working with Marcus from Onell beginning of December to get a few things rolling here on the site. The handsome rock star will be getting this site running properly and hopefully the Spaced Out Design store will open with some special customs before the years end, along with some other content! Marc is good with wrangling crazy people like Matt and Jesse , so he should have no problem with me, hopefully! Hah!

Super excited about these new pieces I have been working on. The Tree-Borg has been something I had been thinking for awhile and wanted to bring to life. There is a few pieces to the Tree-Borg including ; A Head, Shoulder piece(reversible), Tree-Cannon, and Foot/Base. The sculpts represent both organic and inorganic properties.  I can't wait to mold this dude up and get some customs together! Got a few other things on tap as well, but the Tree-Borg is going to come to fruition first. Also, another evolved version of one of my Characters -Cy'Reen. This is a more enhanced version of here. Had some fun sketching some ideas up and landed here. Ill be posting more WIP pictures as I go with all this stuff and more on a potential December offering soon!

Cloaks on Deck!

Just got some new silicone the other day from smooth-on. I have been adamantly waiting to pour some new molds of my glyos compatible head sculpts. I had previously done a few molds with some lower tear strength silicone, but after talking with Marty(The God Beast) I got the "good stuff". Here is a quick shot of some heads that I casted out of the new molds. I used some quick snap cure urethane just to see if there were any imperfections. The results pleased me thankfully! Thanks again Marty you are a true friend! More to come soon!
