New Forces

Now that traveling and everlasting sickness is over, I have been able to put up the remaining figures from Designercon this year. The new figures are available now in the Shop !

Designercon marked the first appearance of my latest figure- Quarzenic. The last two figures from the first initial run are available along with some Geodraxus/Cynodraxus pieces. I can't wait to further Quarzenic's development and add some new stuff to the mix.

I will be getting back into the shop to make some more figures soon as well. Expect to see some customs as well as small / steady special releases as we make our way through 2015! As always, thank you to everyone who checks out and supports Spaced Out Design. It has truly been fun sharing my vision with you guys the past few years!

Quarzenic

During the making of the last online release, I started sculpting a new character in between casting and tooling. I had been drawing some new characters and wanted to start in on a new figure. I wanted to bring someone in who could pose a real threat to our existing heroes of Prismiria. Something big , but at the same time functional and fun. This meatball is a hefty chunk of resin that I think some of you might like as much as I do. There is a few different variations you can make within the figure. Above are some photos of that and some size comparison shots as well.

 Here enters Quarzenic!

After the planet of Velgeris was overrun by the Treeborgs, they wasted no time gathering what they could to forge new weaponry and gear. It was within their nature to fuse different elements with themselves to create new and powerful lifeforms and or weapons.

They had found remains of Prismirian soldiers across Velgeris and started tinkering with its technology. Many failed experiments came along. However, one experiment stood out from the rest. It was a creature that had elements of the mechanical Treeborgs while also harnessing the power and aesthetics of a Prismirian Knight. These two elements combined made a volatile creation that they were yearning for. This was their way of taking Prismiria and furthering their experimentation.

Without any delay, they commanded their new creation to travel to Prismiria and pave the way for the Treeborg invasion...

More photos and the Designer Con rundown in a little bit!

Process

I wanted to post a few photos showing some parts of the handmade toy making process. In this case, I decided to put up some pictures of the molding phase. Here you can see the pieces of the figure getting prepped and ready for silicone. Each part is surfaced and then primed. Then surfaced again! Hah!

Also, check out the cavity of the top half of the figure! He is going to be a big boy !

Split Personality

This Sunday there will be a nice little spread of figures including a run of these GITD Cynodraxus'. There is something really satisfying about toys that glow in the dark. I like that it adds a unique effect to the figure overall.

This one is for all you glow lovers!

Updates!

I have been working feverishly over at the shop the past few months, and I am in a good rhythm!  It has been amazing, yet challenging getting Geodraxus where he is currently. I couldn't of got here without the assistance of  Matt and Ron. These two masters have been instrumental in getting me where I need to be and I can not thank them enough!

I have been experimenting with a lot of different things ranging from new casting methods to new tooling. I am super happy to say that this new figure is 100% Glyos compatible and the joints are tight! I have been having a lot of fun swapping the parts around and plugging them on various Glyos compatible toy lines! I wanted to share a few photos of whats been brewing with old Geo, I hope everyone gets a kick out of it!

More pics and details will surface soon for this release. Get ready for some pictures from Prismiria, Geodraxus' home planet!

Mechanical Master

More stuff will be surfacing soon on Geo, but I wanted to share a few shop photos to show some of the processes that actually go into making a figure. When I cobbled my first Geodraxus together, I was so unbelievably happy that I had made a figure from top to bottom. I still remember the phone conversations with Matt and Jesse, I was practically in tears! This had become a moment I would not forget. I had been working on him non stop for months and really wanted something to bring to NYCC that year (2013). I did what I could to make him presentable, but I knew he needed a lot of work to get him where I wanted him to be. Flash forward to now.

Ron has taken Geodraxus from his past state, to a more mechanically sound one. I wanted a figure that could do more than the previous version, and Ron has been helping me do just that. We have been going back and forth on getting things "on point" and talking about the future of this figure. Its really awesome to watch him work out in the shop! The pictures display Ron getting parts all lined up and mechanically fit. He has a very accurate way of getting those "sweet spots". I couldn't have made it here without the help of my friends Ron and Matt. You guys are the best!

Most will notice a good deal of changes to Geodraxus. Elements of the sculpt have been pushed and pulled, and new line work and design changes have been implemented. This time, he will be debuting with a darker foe.

I really can't wait to get the molding done and hold a new version of an old friend !

Setting The Stage

Over the past few weeks I have been working on pushing Geodraxus to a whole new level. I really wanted to tighten him up and refine the figure to make it even better. Taking these steps has taught me a lot about the toy making world. It really pays off to spend extra time on an existing project!

On a related note, I have  the honor of working with Ron Daley. For those of you that doesn't know who Ron is, you can check some of the links below to see some of the projects he has worked on. A true toy genius!

Ron and I have teamed up and we are taking Geodraxus above and beyond in his new MK IV state. Geo has been in the works in his various forms for over a year now. Kind of crazy how time passes us by! Ill post an old drawing from winter of 2012 soon when I first started designing him.

So, now that the sculpts are where I want them, I will be making some master molds with Ron and incorporating the same joint system that Matt and him made many years ago. Thats right, just like the Rechlen and Aves figures and first Travelers. Bridging the gap between Matt's world and mine, has been something I have always looked forward to seeing.

More on all of this soon!

Banimon Custom Corps

Its been a few months now working on Banimon's first Custom Corps, and we are really excited to shed some light on this project!

This project has many different components to it. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some of them with you as well as some behind the scenes stuff! Its been a true honor working on this project, can't wait to show more!

The Custom Corps consists of Boris, Seth Longmire, and myself. Boris has provided the base PVC parts and will also be handling the printing and packaging of these suckers! Seth has provided us with some customs heads and body parts as well. I have been put in charge of molding and casting some of these enhancers for the CC as well as building and painting figures!
