Designer Con 2017
Another Pasadena adventure is in the bag! We had a great trip out at Designer Con 2017 with our crew! It was a bitter sweet trip this year as it marks the last Dcon in Pasadena. We have been doing this show for 4 years now and it will certainly be missed at this special location.
I know I have been pretty quiet on the social outlets as of late. This year has been a busy one for me in many ways. Probably the biggest piece was getting married to my best friend of almost 10 years last month! It took a great deal of preparation and focus for that event, so my time became very limited with free activity. However, that did not stop me from developing new creations in the Spaced Out Universe!
I debuted a few things at Dcon '17 including a new Glyos compatible resin line called "The Spaced Out Compact Series". A few of my canon characters had been reworked into small and minimally jointed figures. It was really neat seeing my sculpts tiny and very detailed. The response to these little guys was very positive so definitely look out for more in the near future!
The other new offerings this year were some new 3D printed figures coming from Prismiria. The "Prismirites" are companion pieces to beings of Prismiria. There is 2 versions of the figures with differing parts. Just a small amount of these figures were released in the public. Expect a full release early 2018.
Everything is starting to fall back into place more or less. Be on the lookout for new Spaced Out figures and announcements soon!

Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays everyone! I am hoping you are enjoying time with family and friends this holiday season. A huge thank you to everyone who supported and checked out Spaced Out Design this year! It has been a fun jam-packed year full of new toys and new stories!
With 2017 right around the corner, I plan to continue making new toys as well as bringing older characters back with new flavors. On tap I already have two new figures that made it through the prototyping stage and will be debuting early this coming year. It is going to be something different that I am hoping people will like and check out.
Once again thank you so much for all your support and I hope you all enjoy some holiday cheer! See you next year!

Prismirian Knight
As Prismiria starts to open up more to us, I am starting to introduce all new characters that have been in development for a few years in ABS form. One of my favorite Prismirian designs was originally titled "The Rhino" Prismirian. I ended up with the "Prismirian Knights" as I envisioned these guys being the elite guards to Geodraxus. I imagine the Knights were these stalwart subjects that were also vital protectors of Prismira. Geo knew since the fall of his brother to Acris that the planet needed more support. There was already too many potential threats in the System that put the entire Prismirian race at risk. New Prismirans were trained and the Prismic Defense was starting to form in a strong way. For now, Prismiria would be safe...

Designer Con 2016 Wrap Up
Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to Designer Con 2016 in Pasadena! It was a spectacular show again this year thanks to Ben and Co at 3D Retro. It was wonderful catching up with everyone and meeting a ton of new people at the show. I personally look forward to this trip each and every year.
Our aisle was very strong this year with the powerful presence of our Japanese family as well as our Glyos family. This trip was packed full of laughs and burgers! Everyone had great sales across the boards as people piled in to see all the new toys. Specifically our Japanese friends who had lines that bordered the convention walls! Thanks again to everyone who made this trip a memorable one!
Big thanks to my older brother Matt for sharing table space with me and allowing me to continue my dream of making toys! We both share the same love for California and had a great time with everyone out there. Without this bearded Overseer, I would not be in the position that I am in today. Thanks again for all the advice and opportunities!
Only a tiny batch of toys survived the trip back to Boston. Once again a big thank you to everyone who swung by and showed support! You guys certainly made this convention a record breaking experience for me.

Prisma
I am cooking up a bevy of new items for the upcoming launch. Here is a little taste of what is coming...
I have been messing around with that Prisma app everyone is using and I like the neat outputs it creates. This one seems to be very fitting.

Early Stages 3
Over the years I have learned that the gesture of a toy is a very instrumental part of having a "good" figure in your hands. Even some of the most intensely sculpted figures can lack this very essential aspect. It needs to hit all the marks for me personally or else I wouldn't want to play with it.
In the early stages of fleshing out the Raptinok, I was entertaining the idea of having this figure portray a stance akin to a Raptor. The Raptinok in the beginning had a more fierce and heroic stance (what he is currently sporting now) which I liked better in the end. It is important to see it both ways sometimes. Every one of my figures go through countless stages before I reach the final product. This includes many revisions to design, engineering, scale, you name it. I will make prototypes and let them resonate for a little while to get the general feel for a certain design. At the end of the day, I need to be happy with it before I let it out in the world. As we say in the sheet metal business - "You are only as good as your worst employee". I feel the same way with my toys!
Anyway, enough of my toy making babbling, thought you might like some more behind the scenes stuff.

Early Stages 2
During the production of the Mecha Treeborgs I started in on the Raptinok sculpt. Last year I was influenced by many different toy companies who happen to all be producing some sort of Dino toys. What really did it for me and pushed me to the Raptinoks was Imaginext's Dino Mech figure. It hit all the marks from the core sculpt down to the paint apps and removable armor. I could not stop marveling over this guy!
Above is a sketch study from Matt Doughty. After I started getting the design down and piecing together the figure, Matt helped me visualize a good stance and possible articulation for this guy. Something heroic yet menacing was the outcome of his study. As I have probably said before, almost every project goes back and forth between Matt and myself at one point or another. Whether its engineering, basic design principles, or general thoughts, Matt is there to help me make these toys even better than before. I am truly lucky to have him in my corner!
More photos on tap!

Thank You!
Wow! Thank you to everyone that made last Sunday nights launch one to remember! This was a very special one for me personally. I have been working on developing a new cast of characters for the Spaced Out universe as well as ushering in some old friends to keep things fresh and exciting. As I speak, more Raptinok/Tritanok figures are being made and more all new figures are seeing their last stages of prototyping. I can't thank you all enough for allowing me to share my vision and continue doing what I truly love! You guys are the absolute best!
What also made this launch a super special one, was the collaborative efforts of my brother, Boris Savic of Rocket North. Boris has so many talents and he offered up his extremely tight "free" time to bring Spaced Out's first comic "Mystery Of The Dalendure" to life. A huge thanks goes out to Boris for absolutely nailing the ideas of Velgeris and its inhabitants. Boris you are a creative machine and we love the comic!
I would also like to thank the Bearded Overseer, Matt, for his influence on all of these figures I create. Matt and his toy line continues to inspire me in so many ways and I am seriously lucky to have him in my corner. He also sat down with some of my GITD figures during a very busy month to snap some stellar glow shots for the launch. The Raptinok in particular is an original design that Matt and myself went back and forth on for months when I decided to make the toy. I was very inspired by so many things in 2015 that led me to this Mechanical Dino that I will later explore here on the blog. For now, a big thanks to the big man for everything he does for all of us!
Another tall thanks to the Bit Man, Marcus! June has been super busy for everyone especially this lad. He managed to pull the entire comic together for the launch and also do some insane rollover shots with Matt's glow photos. Marcus has always been the reason everything runs smoothly and is visually sound and I can't thank him enough. You are the best brojack!
As far as shipping goes, the lions share of orders will be seeing the postman this afternoon and people should be receiving shipping confirmations soon if they have not already.
Thank you once again to the great people who support this wild adventure of mine, you guys make each release increasingly fun!
