New Forces

Now that traveling and everlasting sickness is over, I have been able to put up the remaining figures from Designercon this year. The new figures are available now in the Shop !

Designercon marked the first appearance of my latest figure- Quarzenic. The last two figures from the first initial run are available along with some Geodraxus/Cynodraxus pieces. I can't wait to further Quarzenic's development and add some new stuff to the mix.

I will be getting back into the shop to make some more figures soon as well. Expect to see some customs as well as small / steady special releases as we make our way through 2015! As always, thank you to everyone who checks out and supports Spaced Out Design. It has truly been fun sharing my vision with you guys the past few years!

Quarzenic

During the making of the last online release, I started sculpting a new character in between casting and tooling. I had been drawing some new characters and wanted to start in on a new figure. I wanted to bring someone in who could pose a real threat to our existing heroes of Prismiria. Something big , but at the same time functional and fun. This meatball is a hefty chunk of resin that I think some of you might like as much as I do. There is a few different variations you can make within the figure. Above are some photos of that and some size comparison shots as well.

 Here enters Quarzenic!

After the planet of Velgeris was overrun by the Treeborgs, they wasted no time gathering what they could to forge new weaponry and gear. It was within their nature to fuse different elements with themselves to create new and powerful lifeforms and or weapons.

They had found remains of Prismirian soldiers across Velgeris and started tinkering with its technology. Many failed experiments came along. However, one experiment stood out from the rest. It was a creature that had elements of the mechanical Treeborgs while also harnessing the power and aesthetics of a Prismirian Knight. These two elements combined made a volatile creation that they were yearning for. This was their way of taking Prismiria and furthering their experimentation.

Without any delay, they commanded their new creation to travel to Prismiria and pave the way for the Treeborg invasion...

More photos and the Designer Con rundown in a little bit!

Process

I wanted to post a few photos showing some parts of the handmade toy making process. In this case, I decided to put up some pictures of the molding phase. Here you can see the pieces of the figure getting prepped and ready for silicone. Each part is surfaced and then primed. Then surfaced again! Hah!

Also, check out the cavity of the top half of the figure! He is going to be a big boy !

Bulked Out

Without giving too much away too early, I wanted to present a little silhouette of a new figure I have been working on. Mentioned before, he is going to be a huge antagonist to our current heroes of Prismiria. Surely will be giving Geodraxus and Cynodraxus a run for their money. Can't wait to get these rolling!

Fingers super crossed for a Designer Con debut !

A New Threat

Once again I would like to thank everyone for their support on the latest launch ! The response meant a great deal to me and I am forever grateful!

I am moving ahead with a whole new figure to give our heroes a little bit of opposing force. I have been working on this new guy behind the scenes for a bit now. Here is a few little blurbs to peek upon!

Prismiria is entering an inevitable state of chaos. Ill be posting more about this new contender soon!

THANK YOU !!!

Thank you to everyone who came out for the release last night! Words can not convey my extreme gratitude towards each person who came by the store during last nights release. Its the support and comments that truly made this sale something I will never forget. Being able to share my world with others has always been a dream of mine, and I am glad to have shared it with all of you last night!

A lot of time and energy went into the making of this launch. However, I can not take credit for the entirety of it. I want to give a HUGE thanks to my brother Marcus for putting an intense amount of time into the graphics and the overall design/layout of the new site. Him and I went back and forth with my designs and he turned them into a super refined reality. I am forever grateful for his efforts and for his insane attention to detail. Bravo Marcus, I couldn't of done this without you!

I also want to thank my other brother Matt for also helping me design my new logo and for being my absolute "rock" (pun intended!) throughout all my creative endeavors. He has always been my number one source of guidance in this realm and others. I could of never achieved this latest level of Geodraxus without him in my corner. Thank you Mr. Doughty for all that you are !

I want to thank Ron Daley for taking me under his wing and mentoring me over the past few months. He has also been a key factor in the new born Geodraxus figure. Without him, the figure would not be as mechanically sound as it is. He has taught me a lot in a short amount of time and I am super grateful for that! Ron truly cared about what I was creating and was instrumental in getting me where I needed to be. Cheers Ronny!

Lastly, I want to thank my better half Sydney for putting up with me as I stayed out all hours of the night casting these guys up! She has been an absolute trooper when it came to me putting the time in for this release and I am very thankful for her support and understanding! Again, thank you guys for making this release a great one!

Shipping starts late tonight/tomorrow!

Welcome to Prismiria !

The new shop is live!

Welcome to Prismiria, have fun exploring!

On Track!

After destroying a good healthy (not really) portion of Nicks Roast Beef, Marc and I continue to work on tonight's release with heavier guts. We are still on track for 9PM EST here in the new shop. The shop link will be active at 9. Some more items will be posted when we get closer to the release!

Also check out the new site !

Articulating

I just wanted to sneak in a brief idea of what to expect from these figures that will be available in the new Spaced Out shop. Essentially, what we are dealing with is a 100% Glyos compatible urethane prototype. The nature of this material (urethane plastic) is not comparable to what we are used to handling as far as Glyos figures and other PVC figures go, which most of you already know.

Overtime the joints can become loose depending on how much handling the figure has had. A little super glue wipe and they can be tightened pretty easily I have found. (A technique I would suggest to implement upon extensive use). If you have handled prototypes before, you will see some likenesses and differences with what I am offering here. Being aware of the nature of the material helps, so things like  taking joints out directly will preserve the toys life . What I mean by directly is, pulling at the joint straight out, and not torquing/bending the joint. Urethane can be broken. If something doesn't feel right, don't force it. Unfortunately there is no replacements parts for these figures as most are one of a kind. Other than that, these are fun figures to play and mess around with !

More stuff leading up to tonight's sale!

Launch Details

We are right around the corner from the sale so we are going to jump right into the details of what is cooking.

The sale will be this Sunday, September 14th at 9 PM EST. There will be a few different price points for the assortment. It was hard coming to the final price for these MK IV editions of the figures. I had previously sold a very simplified version of Geodraxus for $40. Adding a lot more to the table, I wanted to keep the price as low as I possibly could. Comparing to our brothers and sisters who make production figures, there is a bit of a price jump. The main reason is that I am fabricating each one by hand rather than a factory producing them. Anyways, here is the skinny.

They are as follows :

The 4 different colorway options will be $45 each. Each figure comes with a bonus head and a bonus weapon arm . A total of 9 individual Glyos compatible piece.

There will be a few custom figures for $55 each .

Lastly, a few one off cast figures for $40 each. A total of 7 individual Glyos compatible pieces (No Bonus parts).

I would also like to thank Ben Spencer for printing these stellar cards for the packaging! I wanted to give a little extra to the figures overall appearance and he nailed it!

More new stuff will be popping up over the next few days until the sale. Now, back to packing with the Onell family.

Split Personality

This Sunday there will be a nice little spread of figures including a run of these GITD Cynodraxus'. There is something really satisfying about toys that glow in the dark. I like that it adds a unique effect to the figure overall.

This one is for all you glow lovers!

Special Invitation

The stars are finally aligned and I am ready to share what has taken the better part of two years to complete. Geodraxus has had many iterations and has been reworked multiple times over the past few years. What started as a rough castaline sculpt, has now turned into what we are seeing now - Geodraxus MK IV. I never thought I would spend this much time working and developing this character and his world. Quite frankly, I was ready to start working on the next thing shortly after his first few castings, but something really struck a chord with this figure though. I have learned a lot along the way and tried to incorporate everything into this latest version. I kept tuning him until I was really satisfied with releasing him . I also wanted to push him to a new level and give him a proper release. This Sunday, September 14th, I would like to invite everyone to Prismiria and check out some neat handmade figures as well as some story content/bios of some new characters.  Ill be posting new stuff all week leading up to the launch so stay tuned!

Into the Black

I am cooking along and finished all the casting, tooling, and clean-up work for this latest launch. I wanted to do a few customs to display a different aspect of the Prismirians. Typically, they are a beautiful, sleek, and shiny group of people who are very elegant, yet powerful. There is a crew however, that has a bit more roughness to them. We will meet them in the coming weeks!

Ill be finishing up painting this week and will be printing packaging and finish with photography. I want this launch to be the best it can be, so thanks for bearing with me! Just a quick update, now back to painting.

Antagonistic Force

On the other side of Prismiria, Cynodraxus is searching for Geodraxus frantically. Fleeting through an ancient Synchrode, the wrathful Cynodraxus  suddenly stops to gather energy prior to confronting Prismiria's heroic champion. This familar, yet dangerous force may leave Prismiria in complete turmoil.

Updates!

I have been working feverishly over at the shop the past few months, and I am in a good rhythm!  It has been amazing, yet challenging getting Geodraxus where he is currently. I couldn't of got here without the assistance of  Matt and Ron. These two masters have been instrumental in getting me where I need to be and I can not thank them enough!

I have been experimenting with a lot of different things ranging from new casting methods to new tooling. I am super happy to say that this new figure is 100% Glyos compatible and the joints are tight! I have been having a lot of fun swapping the parts around and plugging them on various Glyos compatible toy lines! I wanted to share a few photos of whats been brewing with old Geo, I hope everyone gets a kick out of it!

More pics and details will surface soon for this release. Get ready for some pictures from Prismiria, Geodraxus' home planet!

Mechanical Master

More stuff will be surfacing soon on Geo, but I wanted to share a few shop photos to show some of the processes that actually go into making a figure. When I cobbled my first Geodraxus together, I was so unbelievably happy that I had made a figure from top to bottom. I still remember the phone conversations with Matt and Jesse, I was practically in tears! This had become a moment I would not forget. I had been working on him non stop for months and really wanted something to bring to NYCC that year (2013). I did what I could to make him presentable, but I knew he needed a lot of work to get him where I wanted him to be. Flash forward to now.

Ron has taken Geodraxus from his past state, to a more mechanically sound one. I wanted a figure that could do more than the previous version, and Ron has been helping me do just that. We have been going back and forth on getting things "on point" and talking about the future of this figure. Its really awesome to watch him work out in the shop! The pictures display Ron getting parts all lined up and mechanically fit. He has a very accurate way of getting those "sweet spots". I couldn't have made it here without the help of my friends Ron and Matt. You guys are the best!

Most will notice a good deal of changes to Geodraxus. Elements of the sculpt have been pushed and pulled, and new line work and design changes have been implemented. This time, he will be debuting with a darker foe.

I really can't wait to get the molding done and hold a new version of an old friend !

Setting The Stage

Over the past few weeks I have been working on pushing Geodraxus to a whole new level. I really wanted to tighten him up and refine the figure to make it even better. Taking these steps has taught me a lot about the toy making world. It really pays off to spend extra time on an existing project!

On a related note, I have  the honor of working with Ron Daley. For those of you that doesn't know who Ron is, you can check some of the links below to see some of the projects he has worked on. A true toy genius!

Ron and I have teamed up and we are taking Geodraxus above and beyond in his new MK IV state. Geo has been in the works in his various forms for over a year now. Kind of crazy how time passes us by! Ill post an old drawing from winter of 2012 soon when I first started designing him.

So, now that the sculpts are where I want them, I will be making some master molds with Ron and incorporating the same joint system that Matt and him made many years ago. Thats right, just like the Rechlen and Aves figures and first Travelers. Bridging the gap between Matt's world and mine, has been something I have always looked forward to seeing.

More on all of this soon!
